Turning Water Into Whine
The Council for National Policy, a Conservative, Christian group, has revealed that it will “consider” running a third-party candidate to oppose a possible Giuliani candidacy for President. This announcement comes after months of complaining by religious Conservatives over Giuliani’s moderate stances on social issues, particularly abortion.
Any reader of this blog, and any student of politics, will know what this means for Republican’s chances in November 2008. President Hillary. Ughh. If religious Conservatives do decide to commit political suicide and split the GOP after the July convention we will almost certainly see a Democratic victory in November.
The time is soon approaching when we as Republicans will have to come to Jesus (pun intended) over what to do with the religious wing of our party. We cannot let some extremists (James Dobson) ruin our chances of victory simply because they have taken a no-compromise attitude on who should be the candidate. They should remember that those who demand all or nothing, get the latter. Or in this case, the Beast.
