Quote of the Day
“read some chinese philosophy about Confuciunism (sic) and some works of Mao Zetong (sic), where you can also find how we treat minorities”.
~A Chinese commentator who has been debating with Archimedes and I about human rights in China. Read the full debate here.
Mao killed a likely 60 million + people in China. John Lenin of the Beatles sums it up pretty well. “But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain’t gonna make it with any one anyhow”. On Friday Archimedes and I will have dueling posts about what to do about China.

I don’t know whether should I laugh at such a claim, because someone cited a singer even as he is John Lennin to support such a violent accuse: Mao killed 60 million chinese, but so stupid chinese still worship him as a great leader of them. Yes, perhaps according some kind of law, you can sentence him to death, because he has made a lot of disaster because of his theory of democracy and absolute anti-burocracy. You can accuse him because he has taken off many people’s property including those of colonization, of capitalists and of lords and even their lives to give lands to the poor people, and his theory of absolute democracy (instead of dictatorship) and absolute liberty of speech, and use the means of struggle to resolve the social problems instead of maintaining the social stability to develop economics.
We remember very well what his mistake is. And I don’t argue the problem how many people he had killed. The number is very confused and we should discuss who are the people killed and why (because natural disasters, wars, those people sentenced to death according to laws, and those killed by his theories). And I am sorry I am not an expert on this number, and I don’t know whether he has killed somebody illegally according to his own will.
When talking about policy and facts about Tibet, I can quote a regulation to the chinese poeple’s liberal army when they entered Tibet: Don’t split and don’t break wind before tibetan people in temple. When Dalai rebelled against central government in 1959 with more than 6000 men against only 1000 soldiers, only less than 200 were killed in only 3 days of battle, and most of the rebels surrendered. And Mao liberated tibetans from theocracy and slavery, and gave land to the slaves. From him on, every nation in China has had equality and right of autonomy. He didn’t admitt any corruption in government, so he killed some corrupt officials, of course according the law at that time. Things are too complicated to advance only a number how many he killed. It’s significant question, but not in the way of Hitler, who killed people in war, in name of razism, and Starlin, who killed people according to his will.
But I say this not to tell that Mao is perfect, but to say that you should get a complet view of him, and even some disaster, there is something for us to think, and to avoid, or to resolve his problems in another way. It’s the right for a singer to sing in his way, and think in his way, of course you can do it in your way citing Lennin (whom I like too), but if you want to think in a philosophical way, things will not be so simple to ask, How many people did Mao kill?

And someone can think in this way: How many people did he save?
Or we can think in philosophical way: what does he represent in history of China and history of world? and why, how and in which extent has he changed the world? Perhaps this is more significant and more productive. Even when you read him about his research of history, of literature, of art of wars, of politics, of theory of nations, and you will get some significant teaching, instead of listening some singer’s how many he killed.
We don’t think him as a philosopher as Plato or Aristotle, or any other philosopher in western history even in chinese history, because what he taught is mainly practic theory or practic things, if you would like, you can call him practical philosopher, but he himself never thought him as a philosopher.
But please don’t give me a name “killer” because I give Mao a little complete judgement, in which your philosophy of killing is resolved in big ocean, even this is a very significant theme for us to research as real philosophy of killing.
