Tim Kaine to Virginians: “Stay off the Roads”
I want to first off thank the CRFV for giving me the chance to share my thoughts, insights and analysis on the issues most pressing to us. I am also the creator of the GMU College Republican blog, so I am hoping maybe a few of you have already read some of my writings. Now with that out of the way, apparently if you do not like taxes, you need to stay off the roads.
At least that is Governor Tim Kaine’s feeling on the matter. Americans for Prosperity sent out a email reporting that at a Staunton town hall meeting, the Governor responded to protesters chants of “no new taxes” by saying “stay off the roads.” He repeated the same kind of sarcasm at a meeting in Hampton by responding with “No new roads.” I am guessing all the frustration of being rejected by not only Republicans but Democrats is getting the best of Tim Kaine. Whatever his reason, it is no excuse to take it out on the citizens he serves. Here is a link to the video of Kaine making the remarks.
But I think this pays testament to a fact of life; Americans do not want their taxes raised. Sales taxes, property taxes and any other transparent tax is going to be protested. This explains why our federal government has a income tax that uses withholding to keep its money. Its much easier to hide tax increases like that instead of the way Tim Kaine has to. Thats probably part of the frustration, he cant just slip it in the way the Democrats at the federal level can.
So my message to you, Governor Kaine is rather simple. When you want to raise my taxes without exploring all other options, I have the right the complain and moan all I want. You however, as Governor, do not have the right to be rude to your citizens because you do not like their response to your plan. Please Governor Kaine, grow up.
