Obama’s Irrelevant Adventure
Barack Obama’s much-ballyhooed trip abroad, during which he has said he’ll be President for ten years, that the surge didn’t matter, and that Iraq isn’t really important, doesn’t matter. Don’t believe me? Ask John McCain, or more pointedly, his poll numbers.
Those poll numbers, especially in key battleground states, would tell you that despite the fact that the MSM’s coverage borders on idol worship (which it probably is) Obama’s trip doesn’t matter to voters. They don’t seem to care how important Angela Merkel and Nicholas Sarkozy think Obama is. These voters think their economy is far more important than the Obama ‘08 Adoration World Tour.
What’s even worse for The One is that solid majorities in key battleground states favor staying in Iraq “until the situation is more stable” than setting “a fixed date for withdrawal” as Obama still says he would do. With Iraq looming as the number two issue, and likely to remain there through November, The One seems to have shown yet again that he is out of touch and out of step with most Americans.
The economy has been the number one issue for months, so what sense does it make for The One to gather his admirers and go overseas? What kind of judgement is that? The country isn’t concerned about Germany, France or even Israel, so why go there? Are Obama’s aides advisers or fanboys? This self-congratulatory boondoggle simply proves yet again that Obama lives in a world of his own making, where only he matters, his judgement is always right, and his pronouncements determine reality for the rest of us.
