Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum.
“If you desire peace, prepare for war.”
-Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus-
Great and glorious post-election greetings to you, dear reader - it is wonderful to be back doing what I do best: Writing my opinion of the day! Today, I will be writing about what we College Republicans should do, looking forward into the next four years.
We lost, guys. We lost big, and we lost Virginia. But we now have a choice before us, and the choice must be made now. This choice is whether to wallow in self-pity and doubt; or to reload, rearm, and train ourselves for the coming storm. I have never been one for giving up, so for me the choice is easy enough. But like any movement, one man alone can do very little. We must learn to communicate better, to move as a single unit - one team, one mind, one purpose. And this shall be our purpose: We must win in two years.
You all know the stakes. You know what must be done, and how to do it - we’ve done it before, after the stunning 1992 defeat. In that time, like now, the state and local GOP were in varying forms of disarray. But we College Republicans banded together, and fought as a team for the ideas that made us great. We gave life to a new generation of leaders - WE did that. We were the lifeblood of the conservative movement, and we can do it again.
But there is no time to waste. In a short time, we will be electing a new CRFV executive board. This board will be charged with arming the individual chapters for the next year - and this year is critical for our future success. The chapters must take a new, tougher, guerilla-style line. It is time for College Republicans to engage in intellectual warfare - to dream of conservative, free-market solutions to issues that are at hand today.
We are now in a situation not unlike what would have occured if Senator McCain and others had not forced the troop surge in Iraq - we have been defeated, but not yet broken. We can retreat, surrender, throw down our arms and admit that our liberal opponents do have all the solutions; or we can finally stand with a clear goal in mind:
Win.
Win as a team. Win with ideas, because our ideas are our weapons. Win because our ideas are worth fighting for. Win because without the victory of our ideas, our country may be overrun with the same policies in place in Italy, Germany, Spain, or France. Win, because the conservative next to you depends on it. Win, because we must.
If you are willing, but don’t know what you should first do, you can email me directly at conservativegodfather@gmail.com. Yes, the irony is intended. Or, you can go through the normal channels - contact other chapter chairs/presidents for ideas on what to do first. It is my fondest wish that I will be completely unneeded - that you young conservatives will take the fight to the liberals. But I am always here, and always watching, if you need help.
Take care, leaders of tomorrow. We’re depending you now.
“If this be treason, make the most of it.”
