Quote of the Day

“What happens to the Republicans in 2008 will likely be dictated by what didn’t happen in 2005, and ‘06, and ‘07. The moment when the party could have broken, on principle, with the administration – over the thinking behind and the carrying out of the war, over immigration, spending and the size of government – has passed. What two years ago would have been honorable and wise will now look craven. They’re stuck”.

Republican Renewal

“Biggest Government Ever” was the headline on Drudge linking this article. The frightening thing is that nearly all this expansion occurred under traitorous Republican leadership. Whether it was Medicare Part D, nation-building operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, No Child Left Behind or any other of the bank-busting do-gooderies dreamt up by our friends in Washington, the philosophical moorings of the party seem to have been detached. There is a serious need for a Republican Renewal, a return to philosophy. Ron Paul’s new book is an excellent introduction to the conservative ideas of yore and the principles of the Old Right, exemplified by “Mr. Republican”, Robert Taft. Also, George Nash’s Book, The Conservative Intellectual Movement in America, is a fine primer on the variances in conservative thought.  Read More

    Fairfax County Perspective

Turns out Fairfax County’s teachers aren’t getting the 1% cost of living increase that had been in the works, because now that money is going to cover the increased costs to the school system of all the illegal immigrants who have recently migrated to Fairfax from Prince William. That’s according to the superintendent. What we need in Fairfax is someone like Corey Stuart who can deal with the problem head on, instead of fearfully skirting the issue, trying not to offend anyone or appear racist. Read More

So you want to Run a Campaign and do it Online

After graduating from JMU last week I decided to forgo a beach trip and spend a week at the Leadership Institute learning the fundamentals of how to run a campaign and get the latest info on how to be an effective internet activist.  Here is a brief overview of the two courses.

     Campaign Manager School

I left the course with a binder that could be filled with the equivalent of a semester long class, five free books, and a DVD player!  I entered the class having run a campaign, but wondering how to connect all aspects of such a large operation together.  I left having learned how to write a campaign and a finance plan, create a campaign structure, fundraise, run an effective GOTV drive, maximize media potential, and deal with consultants.    Read more »

    Vice President Jindal?

    Hello VA College Republicans-

According to politico.com, The McCain campaign is seriously considering Governor Bobby Jindal for the VP nomination. While Jindal constantly denies that he will be asked, now more than ever, his name is being mentioned as a person who can help reunited the Republican Party. This news has been dominated several conservative blogs for the past few days.

    Dingle-Retarded: JMU’s Commencement

Ponder this.  You’re graduating from James Madison U. and your commencement speaker (Tom Dingledine) tells you to hold hands and close your eyes as new age music is cued.  Quick, you have two seconds to decide what to do?

    • 1) Grab the hand next to you because she is a hottie
    • 2) Start the wave
    • 3) Begin to converse with those next to about your Barney-esque robes
    • 4) Start laughing hysterically

    McCain’s Rx

John McCain got it right on health care today, outlining a health care reform plan in today’s NRO that correctly addresses the problems of the health insurance industry and prescribes precisely the right remedy: market competition and family control.  McCain wisely rebukes the government-run monopolies of Hillary- and Obama-Care as well as the government-created monopolies of plans that force people to buy insurance.  Instead, McCain offers a combination of Health Savings Accounts for paying premiums, tax credits that enable people to buy their own personal policy, and a Guaranteed Access Plan that would smooth the regulatory landscape of the interstate health insurance market.
